Practically every physical therapist and personal trainer has learned a variety of core exercises to use with their clients. Core fitness has become an advertising buzzword, helping to sell all kinds of health-related products. Blood Pressure Medication Linked to Increased Rate of Death

Flying in the face of Western medicine dogma is a “Journal of the American Medical Association”1 study showing that tight control of blood pressure with drugs is actually associated with an increased risk of death. The authors write, “In this observational study, we have shown for the first time, to our knowledge, that decreasing systolic BP to lower than 130 mm Hg in patients with diabetes and CAD was not associated with further reduction in morbidity beyond that associated with systolic BP lower than 140 mm Hg, and, in fact, was associated with an increase in risk of all-cause mortality. Moreover, the increased mortality risk persisted over the long term.”

Cinnamon Extract Improves Antioxidant Function & Blood Sugar

Cinnulin PF1, a water-soluble extract of cinnamon, has been shown to improve the antioxidant status and lower the fasting glucose levels of obese pre-diabetic individuals. Researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture continue to document the power of nutrition to help improve health problems faced by millions.

Study participants took 250 mg of Cinnulin PF twice a day for 12 weeks. These individuals started the study with elevated fasting glucose levels but were not yet diabetic. The researchers measured various parameters of antioxidant function, which demonstrates free radical distress – a factor known to interfere with healthy blood sugar metabolism. The study showed that as Cinnulin PF improved the antioxidant status of the participants then their fasting blood sugar improved.

Dietary fiber is one of the fundamentals of a healthy diet. To support weight management, I recommend 35 – 50 grams of fiber per day (men on the higher side). A lack of adequate dietary fiber will eventually stall any weight loss efforts. Although it is a form of complex carbohydrate, it is so complex that it is not digestible for use as energy like other carbohydrates (fruit, bread, pasta, etc.). This can be a bit confusing, as fiber “calories” must be listed as carbohydrates on food and supplement labels, yet they are actually a “no calorie” type of food.

Wouldn’t it be great if your body came with an owner’s manual? You’d probably begin reading it around the age of seven or eight, and right away you would be able to start taking better care of your precious body. You would learn how you can use your body efficiently and effectively. By learning how to use your body correctly, you’d be ensuring a lifetime of good health and peak performance. You wouldn’t have to play catch up when, after years and decades of uninformed abuse, your once-perfect physical machinery began to systematically break down. In fact, by taking the time to learn sound practices, habits, and techniques now, you could avoid what, for many, turns out to be years or even decades of unnecessary physical pain and mental or emotional suffering. Fortunately, it’s never too late to start improving your life and maximizing your health, and the sooner you get started, the sooner you will start experiencing the benefits.
